2017 | Resilience – Celebrating ordinary people doing the extraordinary

YWILD’s sophomore panel and dialogue celebrated the resilience of ordinary people who have pursued the extraordinary.

Held on 28 October 2017, our panel hosted over 100 female youths with Minister Grace Fu the Guest of Honour. Among those in attendance were young women from tertiary institutions and recent university graduates.

The theme for this event was “Resilience – Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things”. We believe that everyone is blessed with unique strengths to tap on, especially amidst uncertain futures.

To inspire our guests to be change makers of the future and lead with excellence, our panellists included:

Liyana Musfirah, entrepreneur and religious leader

Shereen Williams, humanitarian activist for women, race, religious issues and Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Yusrina Yaakob, the first female Malay Singaporean to climb Mount Everest

Adlina Adil, actress and founder of social enterprise “Maketh Project”

“We wanted to empower women to reclaim and take ownership of the issues that relate to them. And what better way to do it than through the strength of stories shared by each of our panel speakers, which serve not only as a source of inspiration but also assurance and guidance to other women that challenges, whatever form they may take, can be overcome,” shared Nadia and Erliana, the co-founders of YWILD.

In the lead up to this dialogue, our esteemed ambassadors were also featured by Our Grandfather Story, in a touching series that explored a conversation with their younger self and how they’d guide themselves on their journey to where they’re at today.

The event also played host to the “Pay With A Question” Café where you can get a complimentary cuppa on the house if you take the opportunity to ask our team a question regarding the role of women in today’s society. Paired with our segment with Kalina Silverman from the Big Talk, this was a great avenue to discuss topics surrounding empathy in new and fresh ways.

We were also treated to a Maketh Project leather craft workshop by panelist, Adlina Adil, while our friends from the Band of Doodlers returned to lend their talented hands to document the panel and personalize door gifts for all guests.
